Maintaining biodiversity and ecosystems services is crucial to reduce poverty as well as the risks of natural disasters. We therefore act at all levels to help fight unsustainable practices that are threatening biodiversity and ecosystems around the world. Our action in that field is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 15 and the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.

The EU’s biodiversity strategy for 2030 is a comprehensive, ambitious and long-term plan to protect nature and reverse the degradation of ecosystems. The strategy aims to put Europe's biodiversity on a path to recovery by 2030, and contains specific actions and commitments.

Climate change and environmental degradation are an existential threat to Europe and the world. To overcome these challenges, the European Green Deal will transform the EU into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, ensuring: no net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050; economic growth decoupled from resource use; no person and no place left behind.
