- New Data-Modelling dashboard on Bio-based industry and biorefineries | European Commission, Joint Research Centre
The EU bio-based industry is quickly evolving but clear data on the development of this emerging sector are still missing. This new JRC report illustrates the work of the JRC in building an extensive database of EU facilities producing different categories of bio-based products: bio-based chemicals; liquid biofuels; bio-based composites and fibres; pulp and paper; biomethane; starch, sugar and derived products; timber (sawmills). The database is accompanied by an online interactive dashboard implemented in the EC Data portal of agro-economics Modelling (DataM) and in the EC Knowledge Centre for Bioeconomy.
- Bioeconomy strategy | European Commission, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation
The bioeconomy strategy supports the Commission's political priorities. What the EU is doing, action plan, national strategies, timeline and documents.
- Research by area: Bioeconomy | European Commission, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation
Research and innovation on the bioeconomy, funding, collaboration and job opportunities, projects and results, events and news.
- Research by area: Blue bioeconomy | European Commission, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation
What the blue bioeconomy is, and how research and innovation supports EU blue growth policy and the European Green Deal
- European Bioeconomy Policy Forum | European Commission, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation
This forum allows for structured dialogue between the Commission and Member States. It provides an opportunity to: 1) engage and build the knowledge base on key bioeconomy-relevant policy developments and best practices at MS and EU level, and 2) seek input from MS on pertinent issues in order to guide the implementation of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and inform wider policy developments.
- Agriculture and forestry in the bioeconomy | European Commission, Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development
Agriculture and forestry are important biomass suppliers, providing raw material for the production of bioenergy.
- Blue bioeconomy and blue biotechnology | European Commission, Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries
The emerging blue bioeconomy and biotechnology sectors look at groups of marine organisms that until now often have been ignored for commercial exploitation.
- Funding and grants: Circular economy and bioeconomy sectors | European Research Executive Agency
Under Horizon Europe, the European Commission funds research and innovation to develop solutions for the sustainable and circular management and use of natural resources.
Initiatives funded by the European Union
- Circular Bio-based Europe: Joint Undertaking
The Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) is a €2 billion partnership between the European Union and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) that funds projects advancing competitive circular bio-based industries in Europe. CBE JU is operating under the rules of Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme, for the 2021-2031 period. The partnership is building on the success of its predecessor, the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), while addressing the current challenges facing the industry.
- BIOEAST: Central and Eastern European Initiative for Knowledge-based Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture in the Bioeconomy
The mission of the BIOEAST Initiative is to support the development of knowledge and cooperation based circular bioeconomies to enhance inclusive growth in the BIOEAST countries and also to create new value-added jobs especially in rural areas, maintaining or even strengthening environmental sustainability.
