The exhibition “Europe and Europeans 1950>2020: 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration” sets out to raise awareness of the importance of the Schuman Declaration within the history of European integration, to stimulate reflection on its relevance in today’s Europe, and to encourage debate on the history of the European Union (EU) and its future.
- Exhibition for the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration
2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. On this occasion, the Archives unit, the directorate for the Library and Knowledge services and the Strasbourg liaison office jointly of the European Parliament organise an exhibition to celebrate this significant event in the history of European integration.

Publication Date: 2000Robert Schuman's declaration of 9 May 1950 was the catalyst for the construction of Europe and even today remains surprisingly topical. It was this declaration which, 50 years ago, sealed the peace between countries which had fought each other in two world wars. It paved the way for the European Communities. As we enter the third millennium, the European Union has come of age and is preparing for a new phase of enlargement.
