While the European Economic Community has evolved through the decades into the legal entity of the European Union, the substantive law contained in the 1957 Euratom Treaty has never been amended. Recurring legal discussions of the treaty's potentially obsolete nature give rise to this much-needed handbook, which provides systematic analysis and evaluation of the competences conferred under the Euratom Treaty.

Addressing the contentious debate surrounding the future of the European Atomic Energy Community Treaty (Euratom), the author offers one of the first examinations of Euratom from an institutional and structural perspective, and in doing so, investigates the legal implications of its continued separate existence.

This publication explores the unique nature of the Euratom Community as an entity that establishes a supranational regulation in the civil nuclear industry, which, while formally belonging to the European Union construct, is coincidentally somewhat kept 'outside' the mainstream developments in the Union.

Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht, welche Auswirkungen die im Verfassungsvertrag vorgesehenen Änderungen auf den Euratom-Vertrag haben. Nach einer Einführung in das aktuelle Regelwerk des Euratom-Vertrags und einem Überblick über die Beratungen während des Europäischen Konvents und der Regierungskonferenz 2003/2004 werden die Neuerungen im institutionellen und materiellen Bereich herausgearbeitet und einer Überprüfung unterzogen.
