Under the umbrella of the Agora Think Tanks, Agora Energiewende develops politically feasible and science-based strategies and solutions for the transformation to climate neutrality – in Germany, Europe, and internationally. Along with overarching questions of climate policy, the successful transformation to a climate-neutral energy system is at the core of our work.

The AI for Energy Grids Lab is focused on developing methods and tools that use grid data to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and reliability of the medium-low voltage grid. It combines the expertise of Alliander data scientists, electrical engineers, and the latest digitalization programs for grid data, with academic expertise on methods from artificial intelligence. The lab’s collaboration network includes all Dutch Distribution system operators, as well as academic institutions such as Delft University of Technology, Radboud University, and the University of Twente.

Europe’s ambitious decarbonisation targets have become a common horizon for European and national policymakers. Yet, achieving a just transition and a carbon-neutral economy by 2050 requires unprecedented joint efforts. Addressing the climate and energy challenges such as reducing the environmental impacts of mobility without curbing the free movement of citizens or goods, requires a thorough understanding of ever-changing markets and actors, infrastructure developments and affordability of energy for citizens.
