To encourage women´s participation in STEM studies and careers and ensure enhanced inclusion of women in the digital economy, the European Commission will support young female students in developing their digital and entrepreneurship competences. It will seek to increase the inclusion of women in digital and STEM study fields and careers, including as entrepreneurs.

Women account for only 29% of PhD graduates in engineering, manufacturing and construction across the EU. They represent only 25% of self-employed professionals in technical professions such as science, engineering, or information and communication technologies. They are significantly under-represented among inventors, with only 10% of patent applications coming from women.

Member States must submit to the Commission national roadmaps, detailing the actions they plan to implement to collectively reach the 2030 Digital Decade goals.
