Introduction

Blue economy

Blue economy refers to any economic activity relating to oceans and seas. It covers a broad range of established and emerging sectors.

The EU's blue economy is a major driver of economic growth and innovation. It plays a key role in Europe's industrial and security strategies, encompassing traditional sectors like fisheries and shipping, as well as emerging fields such as renewable energy and blue biotechnology.

It is important to develop this blue economy taking into account the sustainable use of marine resources, social inclusion, and fairness.
