- Assessing 10 Years of International Commitments to Sustainable Ocean Action: A Global Stocktake of the Our Ocean Conference

This working paper presents the first global assessment of more than 2600 voluntary commitments to ocean action, associated with the international Our Ocean Conference. It analyses implementation progress and financial delivery, disaggregated by thematic, spatial, temporal and sectoral dimensions over 10 years. It presents policy recommendations to strengthen the immediate and strategic outcomes of the Our Ocean Conference and provides a baseline assessment of commitment progress to strengthen global ocean accountability and transparency.

The blue finance sector provides funds for sustainable projects and investments in the maritime and coastal areas. It currently faces a number of shortcomings and obstacles. While the volume of blue finance remains low in comparison to actual needs, some positive developments are to be noted. This blog post pleads for a scaling up of this emerging dynamic, relying upon public-private partnerships, enhanced information provision to companies, and innovative financial instruments.

2025 marks a critical turning point for global ocean governance. With the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference and the launch of the European Ocean Pact, the EU must lead by swiftly ratifying and operationalising the High Seas Treaty (BBNJ Agreement). This policy brief outlines how the EU can translate its ocean commitments into action—by aligning internal policies with international obligations, accelerating global ratifications, and shaping the Treaty’s implementation through inclusive governance and early conservation measures. The goal: to catalyse lasting protection for marine biodiversity and reinforce the EU's leadership in safeguarding the High Seas.
- The Global Sustainable Aquaculture Roadmap: Pathways for Systemic Change

The opportunity emerging from the sustainable growth of aquaculture has been highlighted by prominent initiatives such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' (FAO) 2022 report (The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture), the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy’s 2020 report (Ocean Solutions that Benefit People, Nature and the Economy) and the Blue Food Assessment’s 2021 report (Building Blue Food Futures for People and the Planet). This Global Sustainable Aquaculture Roadmap sets out a clear direction of focus areas to achieve sustainability, where to prioritize action and who needs to collaborate to make progress.
