This data story uses open data to underscore the importance of the blue economy and to paint a comprehensive picture of the socioeconomic size of the EU’s maritime affairs. The analysis first provides an overview of the size of the blue economy; it then focuses more specifically on one of the most important sectors, coastal tourism; finally, it highlights the growing importance of the renewable offshore wind energy sector.

To achieve the EU Green Deal and a to achieve a fair green and digital transition across Europe, access to data (open as well as private) is crucial. These data can provide users with information, e.g. through interactive maps or dashboards. It can also be used to create services that open the way to and speed up the process towards, for example, climate neutrality, reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improvement of energy efficiency and restoring biodiversity.

The data and charts at the link below show the economic indicators used for the established sectors in the EU Blue Economy report. The six sectors include: Coastal Tourism, Marine living resources, Marine non-living resources, Port activities, Shipbuilding and repair and Maritime transport.
