- Fixing financial, economic and governance structures to save forests and the ocean, and enhance their contributions to climate change solutions
Coalition for Rainforest Nations, Istituto Affari Internazionali, Think20, Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Ecologic Institute, Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions (Durham, N.C.), [et. al], 2021.
The brief provides the background of two proposed regulation mechanisms: REDD+ (a series of guidelines to reduce the effects of deforestation and enhance the Global South’s carbon stocks) and Blue Carbon (a global initiative focused on the preservation of coastal biospheres). The publication goes on to propose that, through funding, the G20 help strengthen the REDD+ climate instrument for forests and extend it to Blue Carbon from marine ecosystems.
- Governing data and artificial intelligence for all: Models for sustainable and just data governance
Think Tank European Parliament, 11/7/2022.
this study identifies and examines policy options for the EU's data governance framework that align with a data justice perspective. A data justice approach is one that centres on equity, recognition and representation of plural interests, and the creation and preservation of public goods as its principal goals. The analysis offers both an assessment of the EU data governance strategy overall and specific policy options for the AI act, the data governance act and the data act.
Four benchmarks for good data governance are proposed, in line with the principles of justice: preserving and strengthening public infrastructure and public goods, inclusiveness, contestability and accountability, and global responsibility. Exploring examples of different governance models, the authors examine how these models and options intersect, and what lessons they offer for the EU case.
- Measuring progress towards climate neutrality part II: integrating net zero indicators in EU governance processes
M. Duwe, D. Spasova, Institut du développement durable et des relations internationales (France), European Climate Foundation, Ecologic Institute. 2021;
Achieving climate neutrality requires structural changes to our economic system, with solutions that work across sectors. The Ecologic Institute has developed an assessment matrix based on net zero indicators that can measure climate neutrality, and proposes ways to integrate this framework into existing EU policy processes.
