Referencing with EU Style Using Zotero

Introduction

A selection of information resources relevant to the work of the European Commission.

Introduction

Zotero and the European Union Interinstitutional Style (EU style)

Zotero is the recommended reference manager to correctly apply the European Union Interinstitutional Style (EU style for short). The EU style can be used in two different referencing formats: in footnotes (the note system); and in parentheses in the text (following the author-date system). These two formats are mutually exclusive, meaning that each document must use only one and never both simultaneously.

Currently, it is only possible to use the EU style in author-date format within a reference manager application. The style can be installed from the Zotero Style Repository.
(You can find more information about managing referencing styles in Zotero on the tab 'initial settings' of the page How to insert a citation..., of this guide. Or using a Citation Style Language (CSL) file, which encodes the rules of a particular variation of a bibliographic style.)

In addition to installing the EU style in Zotero, you need to know how to use the application. To help you, several Zotero tutorials are available in this guide. You will also find examples and the necessary information on the mandatory and optional bibliographic elements of the EU style, and their relation to Zotero fields, to apply the EU style correctly.
