Composition of the Thorn Commission (1981-1985)1
The Thorn Commission took office on 12 January 1981 and was succeeded on 5 January 1985 by the Delors Commission. It had to face the economic crisis which occurred in the early 1980s. This mandate was essentially marked by the speeding-up of the enlargement process to the south (Greece, Spain and Portugal) and the inroads made towards the Single European Act (1986) (source: European Commission, archived web page, accessed 3 April 2024).
